Appointment with Myself

We are taught many things from childhood to adulthood, but we are rarely taught not to put our lives on hold while waiting for someone else, or to recognize the value of moments spent alone. No one teaches us the pleasure of having lunch by ourselves at the restaurant we’ve been wanting to try for ages, or of attending an event alone without feeling out of place.

But does every experience truly gain value only when it is shared?

We need other people, of course. Yet the way we spend our time should not depend on someone else’s availability. Life is too short to postpone until you’ve finally convinced your partner to come along, or until your friend manages to find time between work and family.

Even less are we taught the importance of creating a space that belongs entirely to ourselves—a place that is mental before it is physical—where we can recharge, care for ourselves, and get to know who we really are (something that, understandably, many of us tend to avoid).

Time, this resource that is so scarce, is the greatest luxury of all. We strive to earn more money, yet we rarely set ourselves the goal of spending our time in the most meaningful and fulfilling way possible. And yet, the time we dedicate to ourselves is the true privilege, and only self-love allows us to honour it. A rendez-vous with yourself is an act of care, respect, balance, and introspection. That is time well spent.

This space, which will intentionally remain anonymous, was created to share gestures, rituals, places, experiences, reflections, and passions—and, hopefully, to inspire as many people as possible. If even a single article encourages you to plan just one rendez-vous with yourself, then this space will have fulfilled its purpose.
